Completing the Summer Reading Program

For children from preschool up to 5th grade who live in Southfield or Lathrup Village. (If you don’t live here you are still welcome to attend the events.)

Once Summer Reading starts, kids can come to the Youth desk and pick up their map. This will have 10 landmarks in the United States. Once you have read for one hour (it can be by yourself or to a grown-up), you can color in one (1) landmark. After you color in all 10 landmarks, you can then turn in the map for a coupon for Kona Ice Cream and a book of your choice. Each turned-in map counts as an entry into the end-of-the-program raffle. You can turn in up to 5 maps.

The last day to turn in the maps will be August 5th. You can also pick up the tickets to the Summer Reading Program Finale at this time. The prizes for the completion raffle are:

  • A $50 gift card to Target
  • A $50 gift card to the Doll Hospital and Toy Soldier shop in Berkley, MI
  • 2 year-long passes for families to the Detroit Zoo
